The objective of this project is to establish and maintain a charitable, non-profit Heart Hospital in the city of Rajkot, India with the ultimate aim of delivering advance treatment for heart disease, with the facility of Angiography, Angioplasty, By-pass surgery and valvular surgery. Our aim is to treat up to 18,000 patients annually. This will help improve the quality of life for thousands of people, whose lives have been threatened by heart disease.
The Rajkot has a population of around 700,000 people. The city, is a central part of Saurashtra a region of Gujarat, India. Rajkot is connected with Road, Rail and Air with all metro and major city of India. There is a very poor facility of Heart treatment in Saurashtra region and almost all patients has to move at either Ahmedabad, Baroda or Mumbai for advance treatment with high risk. Hence, there is a very urgent need for structured, specialised Heart treatment centre.
The aim of this Hospital is to provide comprehensive cardiac care and facility of Angiography, Angioplasty, valvular surgery and bye pass surgery. There by delivering an improved service to the people of the governorate.
Currently, the hospital’s all department does not have the capacity to treat all the patients, and hence cardiac patients are referred to a specialist cardiac hospital at other places, even for simple procedures. For the majority of patients, travel to any place is both costly and dangerous. It is estimated that approximately 40% of the patients of Saurashtra are transferred to either ahmedabad or other places. Hence we want to establish the Sadbhavana Heart Hospital which should run on no profit no loss basis.
The new heart hospital will have the facilities to undertake these procedures, as well as provide its facility at free of charge to those who genuinely cannot afford payment.
The project is to be carried out in three stages:
The Trust, in conjunction with Sadbhavana Hospital & Medical Research Centre will set up the Sadbhavana Heart Hospital. The estimated aim is to treat 1500 – 2,000 patients on average per month. The Angiography will be given free of charge to the poorer patients, and a minimal cost will be charged to those who can afford to pay. A database of Heart diseases in the governorate will be compiled based on tests and statistics collected from the patients. This database will be useful for future expansion of this Hospital, mapping the needs in other areas of Saurashtra, and planning for other Heart Hospitals. Initially we will appoint cardiologist and cardiac surgeon along with Intensivist who will work on incentive basis and in addition, supervise the locally employed doctors and staff to ensure that he/she is clinically skilled.
After a period of approximately 12 months when the database is ready and a number of patients have been seen, the mobile cath-lab will commence. The Hospital will be furnished with the necessary equipment for this procedure, and required doctors and Cardiac surgeons will be added according to flow of the patient.
For more serious and complicated Heart disease, if, patients will be referred to the specialist hospital in Metro city. At this stage, arrangements would be coordinated between the both hospitals, to ensure the patients are carefully followed up at the clinic on an outpatient basis.

The staff in the Cardiology Department performs angiography, Angioplasty, electrophysiology, and pacemaker placement. The patients are monitored in the 30 bedded intensive cardiac care units. The department provides a complete range of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures.
The department of cardio-thoracic surgery performs all major cardiac operations. We need to appoint world-renowned surgeons to perform corrective surgeries for congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, and coronary artery disease. More than sixty percent of bypass operations are done on beating heart. The patients must be treated with the utmost care by our trained staff in the ultra-modern post surgical ICU.
This department should have all the facilities waiting for the patients like ECG, Stress Test, Echo with Color Doppler, Respiratory medicine with Pulmonary Function Test. The Institute also has the Department of Pathology and Department of Radiology ready at the service of their patients.
The post operative care is also one of the main parts of Cardiac care. The department has to provide computerized Treadmills and bicycles. We also intend to provide yoga and meditation instruction as well as diet and psychological counseling.
Effective and speedy cure of any disease is possible only if the disease is detected and diagnosed correctly in the early stages of disease. This need should meet by our Department of Pathology specially trained staff of this department, using the most advanced equipments and performs a wide variety of tests for both inpatients and outpatients in the Hospital's laboratories round the clock. The analysis of blood, urine and body fluids, as well as the search for microbial and parasitic organisms is to be performed in our Hospital’s laboratories. The Laboratories should be fully equipped with all the latest machineries like Auto analyzers, Blood Cell Counters, Electrolyte and Blood Gas monitors and Analyzers, Elisa readers, Serum Electrolyte Analyzer, etc.
Our Radiology Department must have a full range of diagnostic services including X-Ray, Ultrasound sonography, 3D-Imaging, Color Doppler Test etc. for complete radiological body check-up.
Keeping in mind, the critical situation of the coming patients, the Institute should be fully equipped to handle the ‘Round the Clock emergency’ of the patients with separate emergency care unit which includes the trained staff at their toes to serve the critical patients.
We are planning to have well-equipped ambulance that takes the ICU facilities at the patient’s doorstep for patients suffering from acute heart attack. “ICU on Wheels” should be equipped with: respirator, pacemakers, defibrillators, and all necessary drugs. The ambulance is also accompanied by an experienced senior physician to provide emergency care.
